Two years ago, we endorsed Ann Kuster for Congress in the 2nd N.H. District over incumbent Charlie Bass. We did so despite Bass’s long record of service to the region and the state and his reputation as a social moderate, which made him, at the time, a distinct minority among congressional Republicans.

We were swayed toward Kuster by her stances on issues of substance, such as expanding Medicaid, supporting the impending rollout of national health care reform and shifting the tax burden toward those who can most afford to pay. We pictured Kuster as a congresswoman who would be open to compromise, but be willing to fight for those who most need a voice in Washington.
