Kuster Talks Social Security and Medicare with Seniors in Milford

Milford, NH — Today, Annie Kuster hosted a roundtable conversation on protecting Social Security and Medicare benefits and other issues affecting Granite State seniors. During the conversation, Kuster highlighted her work to ensure the solvency of Social Security, lower prescription drug costs for seniors, and support those on a fixed income.

“Seniors in New Hampshire and across the country have paid into Social Security their entire careers — they deserve to receive the benefits they have earned,” said Kuster. “I am proud to stand against anyone who threatens the programs our seniors rely on. From allowing Medicare to negotiate lower prices to supporting those on a fixed income, I will always fight for Granite State seniors and their families.”

“Annie Kuster is a champion for New Hampshire seniors, and she has been a tremendous partner for our state legislature in Congress,” said Shoshanna Kelly, candidate for Executive Council District 5. “I am proud to stand with her as she fights for our state and our communities to lower costs and build a brighter future for all.”

Annie Kuster has stood against members of both parties who threatened the benefits our seniors have earned and deserve. She took on the drug companies to pass the Inflation Reduction Act to allow Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors and people with disabilities, cap out-of-pocket costs for those on Medicare Part D at $2,000, eliminate out-of-pocket vaccine costs, and cap insulin copays at $35 a month.

In contrast, her Republican challenger Bob Burns stands with the most extreme Washington Republicans working to cut Social Security and Medicare. Burns has said he would “absolutely” join the Freedom Caucus, whose members have advocated for deep cuts to Medicare and Social Security. He supports the proposed House GOP agenda put forward by Rep. Kevin McCarthy, which opens the door to Social Security and Medicare cuts. The Republican Study Committee, a bloc of conservative House GOP lawmakers, included a plan to massively slash Social Security in its proposed 2023 budget. Republican leadership has openly said they claim to create a debt ceiling crisis if they retake the majority to force cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
