Last week on the Kuster campaign

Last week we officially launched our campaign when Annie filed as a candidate for Congress in New Hampshire’s Second District. We also had productive meetings with community leaders, and met with dozens of supporters at house parties across the district. Here are some of the highlights:

On Tuesday night we traveled north to Franconia for a house party at the historic Horse and Hound Inn. It was a fantastic event with over 50 people - thank you to everyone who attended!

On Wednesday Annie met with Steve …

Campaigning with the Vice President

On Tuesday May 22nd Annie joined Vice President Joe Biden for his visit to the Granite State, including campaigning with him at the Peterborough Diner, a Peterborough institution. Here’s Annie meeting supporters with the Vice President:

Over the course of this campaign the breadth of support we’ve received has been overwhelming, and in the last two …

Memorial Day

On Memorial Day, and throughout the year, we honor those who have served our country and their families for their sacrifice. Brad and I have special memories of our fathers, who shared their memories of World War II with our boys when they were young.

My father, Malcolm McLane, flew 63 missions in his P-47 fighter plane before he was shot down in the Battle of the Bulge on Christmas Eve. He spent the last six months of the war in a German POW camp.

Brad’s father, …

Courage and Grace

On Mother’s Day this Sunday, I will enjoy breakfast in bed and then plant my new flower boxes. I have been thinking of my Mom this week, as I campaign around the Second District.

You see, my mother - Susan McLane - fought for liberty, equality, opportunity and fairness for 25 years in the New Hampshire Legislature when I was growing up. She worked hard - protecting the rights of women, children, seniors and people with disabilities and mental illness. She promoted New Hampshire communities and …

War on Women affects us all

This is an edited speech from the New Hampshire Women United rally on Saturday April 28, published on Daily Kos, Blue Hampshire, and Patch.com

Standing up for women right now could not be more important.

The Republicans here in Concord and down in Washington D.C. would have us believe that the War on Women is a phony war. Michele Bachmann and Fox News would have us believe that the whole thing is “political fiction.”

But women – and the men who love them – know that this is …

Join the Granite State Values Tour

Last weekend we launched our district-wide Granite State Values Tour, which will see Annie hold 30 house parties in 30 days to talk about her plan to bring a fresh approach to Washington.

We kicked off the tour on Saturday morning in Salem with a breakfast honoring Jenny Zhang, the recipient of the Fran Brennan memorial scholarship, followed by house parties in Nashua, Milford, Keene, Greenfield and Hopkinton. In the coming days the tour will be continuing with stops in Peterborough, Concord, Walpole, and Hanover.

This campaign …

Standing up for Medicare

Moments ago the Ryan budget was passed in the House of Representatives, and Congressman Bass threw his support behind the plan.

Last week, Annie wrote a letter to Congressman Bass, pledging to stand up for Medicare and urging him to do the same. More than 2,800 of New Hampshire voters added their name to Annie’s letter, but Bass has once again chosen to protect the interests of oil corporations at the expense of middle class families.

Yesterday we delivered Annie’s letter to Congressman Bass’ office with local …

Medicare: Stories from the District

The proposed House Republican Budget would end Medicare as we know it, while preserving tax breaks for millionaires.

Seniors have earned Medicare through a lifetime of paying into the system, and they deserve to have their voice heard — so over the last two weeks, we asked local residents to share why Medicare is important to them. Here are four stories from the District:

The Ryan Budget and the middle class

To join Annie in standing up for Medicare, click here.

The House Republican budget, announced on Tuesday, would end Medicare as we know it. Like last year, it aims to replace Medicare with a privatized voucher system that would both cost seniors more and undermine the Medicare program. Here are the key points:

Vouchers will not keep up with healthcare costs: Seniors would be given a fixed amount to pay for private health insurance coverage, which would not be enough to keep pace with the projected …

The case for contraception

Published in the Concord Monitor, Huffington Post, Daily Kos, Patch.com, Blue Hampshire:

For the past 25 years as an adoption attorney, I have witnessed the extraordinary courage and compassion of women - from age 14 to 40 - facing unplanned pregnancy. Not once did I believe that the government should interfere with their personal and private decision. In fact, I believe in less government interference in people’s personal lives, including whom to marry, when and whether to bear a child and how to raise kind and …
