Courage and Grace

On Mother’s Day this Sunday, I will enjoy breakfast in bed and then plant my new flower boxes. I have been thinking of my Mom this week, as I campaign around the Second District.

You see, my mother - Susan McLane - fought for liberty, equality, opportunity and fairness for 25 years in the New Hampshire Legislature when I was growing up. She worked hard - protecting the rights of women, children, seniors and people with disabilities and mental illness. She promoted New Hampshire communities and protected our natural environment.

Late in life, my Mother faced Alzheimer’s disease with courage and grace. She taught me that although we cannot always control what happens in our lives, we can control the way we respond to life’s challenges.

In conversations across the district, in coffee shops, living rooms, offices, firehouses, schools
and hospitals, I am humbled by the challenges New Hampshire voters face - and inspired by the courage and grace I witness every day.

We are not looking for miracles from our government or elected officials - just someone with the courage, grace, and fairness to fight for our liberty, equality, and opportunity. It’s that simple.

I know. My Mother taught me.

Warm wishes for happy thoughts and memories of the women in your life,

Annie
