SNAP: endorsement

SNAP Endorses Ann McLane Kuster for Congress

In 2010, we sent two organizers to New Hampshire to fight for an activist who was running against an ultimate Blue Dog – a former chairperson on Joe Lieberman’s presidential campaign. She won that fight, and despite the Republican wave, was just barely denied the chance to serve her constituents in Washington. In 2012, we’re proud to support Ann McLane Kuster again, and our organizing fellows are committed to making sure this election ends differently.

In our November Election Preview, we wrote that we expected several Members on this list wouldn’t make the next one because of retirements. Sure enough, Reps. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.), Dan Burton (R-Ind.) and David Dreier (R-Calif.) all decided to call it quits.

Redistricting is still the biggest common denominator for the vulnerable lawmakers who made our cut. But it’s not what put all of them here. New Hampshire is one of just a handful …

The case for contraception

Published in the Concord Monitor, Huffington Post, Daily Kos, Patch.com, Blue Hampshire:

For the past 25 years as an adoption attorney, I have witnessed the extraordinary courage and compassion of women - from age 14 to 40 - facing unplanned pregnancy. Not once did I believe that the government should interfere with their personal and private decision. In fact, I believe in less government interference in people’s personal lives, including whom to marry, when and whether to bear a child and how to raise kind and …

The Grassroots energy on the left - Greg Sargent

Will Republicans again benefit from a big “enthusiasm gap” in the 2012 elections, just as they did in 2010? There are various ways of gauging the energy level of the Democratic base — the metrics seem mixed — but here’s one that perhaps suggests the left will be very energized indeed this year.

House Democrats’ plan to win back the majority

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Steve Israel (N.Y.) today unveiled the Republican-held and open seat targets he believes will fuel his party’s campaign to retake the House majority this November.
